Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 28, 2026
This policy describes what information is handled when you read anatomium.com, how the operator uses it and what choices you have. The operator is the person or organisation that runs Anatomium, and when this page says we, it means that operator.
What our servers record
When a page about the spinal cord or a 3D skeleton loads, the server that delivers it keeps an ordinary log entry. That entry can include your IP address, the time of the request, the address of the page, your browser and device type, and the page that sent you here. We use these records to keep Anatomium running, to find faults and abuse, and to see in broad terms which subjects readers open most.
Cookies and similar storage
Anatomium may use cookies or comparable browser storage. Some keep pages working, such as remembering a display choice. Others, where they are switched on, count visits, support advertising or record which link led a visitor to a book, course or software seller so that affiliate referrals can be attributed. A cookie set by an advertiser or analytics provider is under that provider’s control, not ours, and its notice explains what it does.
Controlling tracking in your browser
You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings, browse privately or add tools that restrict trackers. Where your browser announces a do-not-track or global privacy preference, we honour it as an opt-out for any analytics or advertising tool on Anatomium that is able to read that signal. Blocking some storage may change how interactive parts of a page behave.
Emails and anything you send us
If you write to [email protected], we receive your address and whatever you decide to include. We use it to answer you, to check and make corrections to articles and to keep a record of the exchange. We do not sell messages, and we will not publish one without your permission. Please leave out personal medical details, because Anatomium is an educational site and not a health service.
Newsletters and forms
If a newsletter or form is offered on Anatomium, the details you enter are used only for that purpose, such as sending the anatomy updates you requested. Every issue carries a way to opt out, and an email asking us to take you off the list works just as well.
Outside services we rely on
A site that shows anatomy images and explainers depends on outside providers. These may include hosting and content delivery, analytics, advertising and affiliate networks, and embedded material such as videos or interactive viewers. They may receive technical data about your visit so their service can work, and they handle it under their own policies.
How long information is kept
Visit logs are kept only for a limited time before they are erased or boiled down to anonymous traffic counts. Emails are kept while they remain useful for replying, for correcting an article or for meeting a legal duty, and are deleted afterwards.
Asking about your information
Depending on where you live, you may be able to ask what personal information we hold about you, have it corrected or erased, object to certain uses or withdraw consent you gave earlier. To make a request, email [email protected] and say what you would like us to do. Before acting on a request we may need proof that the mailbox is yours, and we will reply within the time limit that applies where you live.
Younger readers
Anatomium is used by students, but it is not aimed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If a child has sent us details, tell us and we will delete them. Teachers who use the site with a class should not ask pupils to submit personal data to us.
Keeping information safe
Pages are delivered over encrypted connections, and access to the mailbox is restricted to the operator. No method of sending or storing data online is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise complete protection.
Data crossing borders
Providers behind Anatomium may process data in other countries, where the rules can differ from those where you live. By using the site you accept that your information may travel in this way.
When this policy changes
This page will be edited if Anatomium adds new features such as interactive viewers or accounts, or if privacy rules change. The effective date at the top shows when the current version began, and continuing to read Anatomium after an update means you accept it.
Raising a concern
Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time; this does not affect anything done before. Our Cookie Policy page sets out which cookies are used and how to change your mind about them. Not satisfied with our answer? In the EU, EEA and UK you may complain to your data protection authority (the Information Commissioner’s Office in the UK); in Australia, to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
