The Anatomium 3D CAD Skeleton was initially created in
3DStudio Max, then remodeled in Rhino 3D and fine-tuned in Solidworks -
to make sure all typical CAD processes will work perfectly. Made from valid volumetric models,
these are true-to-scale assemblies of fully solid individual parts.
CAD objects are made from NURBS (Non-uniform Rational B-Splines) rather than meshes.
"Mesh" files (polygonal models for animation) usually look more natural and organic and have more detail
- they can be of good comparative service in CAD software -
as long as that software allows their importation. There are still some programs which don't.
In any case, CAD designers are looking for 'water-tight' solid NURBS models,
as they need to use these objects for CAD-typical
processes and simulations.
Knowing this, we made sure the model recreation took place inside the actual CAD software,
keeping alive as much detail of the original mesh version as possible.
The result is a fully workable Solidworks assembly of the human skeleton with all the individual parts,
down to correct metric measure, in formats .sldasm and .sldprt.
